In the fall of 2009 Marie Louise Kold was commissioned by Flemming Borreskov, CEO of Realdania, through architect Birgit Mikkelsen of Abita, to make a permanent work of art for the Realdania Foundation in Copenhagen, Denmark. |

Realdania moved to a new location in November 2009 on Jarmers Plads 2 in central Copenhagen. A free standing wall in the reception area was soundproofed (overseen by Anders Gade, Ph.D., of Gade & Mortensen Akustik) and then covered with a work of art made of partially perforated copper and brass. Here is a before-picture of the reception area, and the building designed by architects Christian, Erik and Aage Holst in 1959. |

The work of art is made of etched and patinated copper and brass and covers 5.5 x 2.8 meters, plus the sides. Some of the metal is industrially perforated for the sound proofing, but by far the majority have been etched through in different patterns to create the basis for the work of art. The title, "Rich in Knowledge about Wings" is from "The Diver" by Karen Blixen, written the same year the building was finished. The motif of wings is evident both in the etched texts and graphic patterns of the squares that make up the large work. |
